Student nurse kills herself after sending final text to ex-boyfriend: 'I want it to end'

A student nurse killed herself shortly after sending a message to her ex-boyfriend saying she “wanted to end it all”, an inquest heard.

Lucy de Oliveira, who had a history of anxiety and depression died at her home in Kensington, Liverpool on 27 February, the inquest at Liverpool's Gerard Majella Courthouse heard.

Shortly before she died of asphyxiation, the second-year nursing student had sent her ex a message saying: “I just want it to end”.

The pair had recently split up, the inquest heard.

The forensic pathology registrar told the hearing that the 22-year-old had also overdosed on painkillers but she died before they could do any damage to her body, the LE reported.

Ms de Oliveira's mother, Liz, told the hearing that her daughter “always put everybody else before herself”.

She said: "It's a tragedy not just for us but for society as she had so much to give. She was the last person you would ever think would do something like this”.

Ms de Oliveira, who was originally from Kidderminister, had been studying at Liverpool John Moores University where she on track for a first class degree, the inquest heard.

Her mother said she had chosen the area because she wanted to work at the local children’s hospital.

Her father Barnabe said he had last seen his daughter when she came round and told him she loved him and that she was “so happy”.

Her sister Alex set up a GFM page for her funeral, but any extra donations will go to charity.

Coroner Anita Bhardwaj recorded the verdict and said there was no one else involved.

"I conclude she took her own life," she said. "There's no doubt she carried out the act herself and messages sent shortly before her death indicate a wish to take her own life."
