Started in 1979 when a boy told his friends he would buy free drinks for anyone who showed their butt to a moving train, the “Moon Amtrak” is a tradition that continues to this day in Laguna Niguel, California
On the second Saturday in July each year, thousands of people gather along the chain-link fence that runs adjacent to the Amtrak train tracks outside Mugs Away Saloon in Orange County to show off their butts to passersby. Trains reportedly slow down between the Irvine and San Juan Capistrano stations to allow passengers to see the “show,” too.
Planned a year in advance with an official website, the event draws people from across the country and has turned into something of a festival.
